Resumo: Fruto de investigações em fontes europeias para compreensão da história africana e resultado de investidas anteriores da autora na história africana, durante a graduação, o livro destaca-se pelo cuidado metodológico, que a possibilitou acessar informações que vão além da superfície textual. A análise da intertextualidade percorre toda a obra, marcada pelos diferentes lugares sociais ocupados pelos cronistas sob escrutínio, que influenciaram diretamente no sentido produzido dentro de seus textos, no tocante ao objeto central de interesse de Lia Laranjeira, que lhe nomeia o livro: O culto da Serpente no reino de Uidá.

Abstract: As a result of investigations in European sources for understanding of African history and the result of previous advances the author in African history, during graduation, the book stands out for methodological care that enabled access information beyond the textual surface. The analysis of intertextuality runs the work, marked by different social spaces occupied by the chroniclers under scrutiny, which directly influenced the effect produced within their texts, regarding the central object of interest Lia Laranjeira appointing him the book: The Cult Serpent in Ouidah kingdom.
